CELEBRATING WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION WEEK 2025
Builders FirstSource is excited to celebrate Women in Construction Week as part of Women’s History Month.
Women continue to make a significant impact throughout BFS, including our lumber yards, field support centers, showrooms, manufacturing facilities and more. It should be no surprise that several BFS team members were once again included in HBSDealer’s Top Women in Hardware & Building list again in 2024, and more could be included in the future.
Here are some of the talented women we are proud to include as team members at Builders FirstSource:
DANIELLE HALCOMB
Inside Sales Rep | Clinton Township, Michigan
Danielle Halcomb has been at BFS for six years after working her way up to becoming a department supervisor at Lowe’s. As an inside sales rep, Halcomb works face-to-face with customers, contractors and our sales team to help prepare bids and deliveries. She also works with management to help coordinate material purchasing to ensure her customers and teams have what they need.
While acknowledging being a woman in construction may seem intimidating, Halcomb says “women can absolutely thrive in the construction industry. With persistence and determination, anything is possible.”
JESSICA WICHMAN
Senior HR Manager | Dallas Field Support Center
After starting her career with BFS as an HR assistant eight years ago, Jessica Wichman is now a senior HR manager supporting the Dallas-Fort Worth and West Texas markets and a portion of multi-family and millwork teams. Wichman works closely with local management teams to provide guidance in areas such as staffing, training, compliance and performance management to ensure they have the support and resources needed to perform their jobs successfully.
Wichman appreciates the opportunity to support a diverse workforce and contribute to the dream of home ownership. She recommends building relationships with leaders and team members because those can be key to a successful performance.
KAT BENTZ
Outside Sales Rep | Sanford, Florida
Great leaders and mentors have helped Kat Bentz grow her career with BFS over 21 years. She started as a receptionist in a truss plant, but has worked her way into different roles in HR and office management. She is now an outside sales rep in Florida. Bentz has benefitted from being encouraged to go after her professional dreams, and is working toward being a “leader of the pack”.
Bentz’s work includes working in the field on jobsites where she could be walking trim or measuring openings, and also negotiating contracts, streamlining take-offs with our Digital Tools and meeting potential new customers. She says that working in construction has introduced her to working with a broad range of people with different skills and ideas. She encourages women in the industry to be confident, learn as much as possible and to take advantage of a great support system.
LOURDES ALVAREZ
Human Resource Generalist | Houston, Texas
Lourdes Alvarez has been working in HR for BFS since 2019. She describes her job as doing something different every day. For example, one day she could be working with onboarding new hires and the next day she could be meeting with team members from other divisions to go over training. In her time working with BFS, Alvarez has learned a lot about the construction process, including much of what it takes to build a house from the ground up.
Alvarez’s advice to other women in the industry is to be yourself, be transparent, and be willing to take on opportunities presented to you. She says that even if you think a challenge isn’t something for you, others think you can do it and you never know how far that chance can take you.
RACHEL DAVIS
Associate Technician – Dallas Field Support Center
Rachel Davis was new to the construction industry when she joined BFS, and while she admits she didn’t know what to expect, she found that it’s been better than she could have imagined. She was pleasantly surprised to discover how much her team communicates throughout the day as they share new information and ask questions, which ultimately helps them serve the BFS team members who come to them for their technical expertise.
Working with team members to resolve their IT issues is a rewarding experience, even if it does often require a lot of patience, but she enjoys making an impact and supporting those needing her help. Davis find that resilience will lead to personal growth and success, and she’s glad it’s happening for her at BFS.
