Taking the Chill Out of Unrealized Energy Loss

Why Use Continuous Insulation?

In a typical home, wood framing accounts for 25% of a wall’s surface. When left uninsulated, this framing contributes to significant energy loss known as thermal bridging.

These images demonstrate the importance of continuous insulation. As you can see in the image on the left, heat loss locations in the form of color. By contrast, in the photo on the right, you can see that the addition of continuous insulation helps to significantly reduce heat loss through the 2x4 wall vs. the 2x6 wall.

Continuous exterior insulation from Dow (STYROFOAM™ insulation, Dow polyisocyanurate insulation) can reduce energy loss through the walls by providing a solid layer of insulation that covers the entire wall, including the wood framing. It also facilitates more consistent temperatures for greater comfort and added energy savings.
